Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans washed and trimmed
  • 4 slices bacon chopped
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  • Wash the green beans thoroughly and trim the ends.
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil and add a pinch of salt.
  • Add the green beans to the boiling water and cook for about 6-10 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
  • Once the green beans are done, immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process and help retain their bright green color.
  • In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
  • Cook the onion in the bacon grease until soft, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the maple syrup, bacon and green beans to pan, stir to combine.
  • Continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the green beans are cooked to your desired level of tenderness and have a nice caramelized glaze from the maple syrup.
  • Season the green beans with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve the Maple Bacon Green Beans as a delicious side dish to complement your meal.
