The Classic Club Sandwich is one of those recipes that takes me back to my childhood. It was one of my favorite lunches when my grandma took us out for lunch. The Classic Club Sandwich was a staple in almost every midwest diner back in the day, and it is still a very popular sandwich for lunch.
I still love ordering this sandwich when I eat out for lunch but it’s also super easy to make yourself at home. The beauty of making this sandwich at home is that you can choose your ingredients and how many layers you add. Just don’t forget to buy long toothpicks to hold it all together. This Classic Club Sandwich is filled with layers of ham, turkey, bacon, cheese and tomato, a classic double-decker sandwich everyone will love.
What is a Classic Club Sandwich?
There are a few theories out there about where the Classic Club Sandwich originated. I’ve read that it started at an exclusive gambling club in Sarasota Springs, New York other sources credit Fraser Scrutton from the exclusive Union Club in New York City as the creator. I’ve also seen recipes using chicken instead of ham or sourdough bread instead of white bread, but one thing all the recipes have in common is that the bread is toasted and always cut into triangles secured with a toothpick.
