Creamy Scalloped Potatoes and Ham

I love potatoes, mashed, baked, au gratin, you name it, I’ll eat it. But this recipe for scalloped potatoes and ham is probably one of my all time favorites. My grandma used to make this all the time when I was a kid, it’s such a comfort food to me, especially on cool fall nights like we’re already having in Minnesota.

Scalloped Potatoes and Ham is definitely a great use for leftover ham or like when I made it this week I bought a small ham just for the purpose of making this dish.

What are Scalloped Potatoes and Ham?

Scalloped potatoes are basically thinly sliced russet potatoes layered in a baking dish that are baked with in cream sauce that consists of milk, butter, and flour.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes
  • Ham
  • Onion
  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Milk
  • Salt
  • Pepper

How to make Scalloped Potatoes and Ham

Arrange thinly sliced potatoes in layers in a 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle each layer with diced onion, flour, butter, and ham.

Scalloped Potatoes 1st layer

Repeat for a second layer and add salt and pepper to taste. Add the milk and bake uncovered for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Remove from the oven, serve and enjoy!

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup cubed ham
