I’m always looking for new recipes but sometimes it’s nice to make a classic tried and true recipe and what better place to find a recipe like that but my grandma’s trusted Betty Crocker Cookbook. To me there’s nothing better than looking through the pages of this book, finding recipes to make that remind me of growing up cooking and baking with grandma.

Homemade Brownies are a popular baked good often enjoyed as a dessert. They are typically characterized by their rich, chocolatey flavor and dense, fudgy or cakey texture. They can be made even more indulgent with the addition of ingredients like nuts, chocolate chips, or frosting.

Ingredients

  • Cocoa powder
  • Shortening
  • Granulated sugar
  • Eggs
  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Chopped walnuts

How to make Homemade Brownies

Heat oven to 350°. Grease a square pan, 8x8x2″

Melt chocolate and shortening over hot water.

Beat in sugar and eggs.

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.

Stir dry ingredients into chocolate mixture.

Mix in nuts.

Spread in pan.

Bake 30 to 35 min., or until top has dull crust.

A slight imprint will be left when top is touched lightly with finger.

Cool slightly and cut into squares.
